Why groups choose Khao Lak
Khao Lak is Phang Nga province's answer to Phuket's density. Resorts sit spread along roughly twenty kilometres of beach between Nang Thong and Pakarang, most of them low-rise, garden-heavy and set back behind casuarina trees. There is no nightlife strip and no high-rise skyline. For a client who wants a leadership group off the grid but still within ninety minutes of an international airport, that emptiness is the product rather than a shortcoming.
Capacity is deliberately modest. Meeting space means resort ballrooms and beachfront lawns, with the largest properties handling a few hundred delegates and most working comfortably in the 40 to 150 band. What Khao Lak adds is access: the Similan Islands are a morning's boat ride, Khao Sok's rainforest lake is a two-hour drive inland, and both give a programme genuine environmental content rather than a beach and a buffet.

Where delegates stay
We describe hotel categories rather than naming properties - the right choice depends on your dates, rate and room-block size.
Nang Thong and Bang Niang beachfront resorts
Central stretch with the closest access to shops, dive operators and restaurants.
Pakarang and Khuk Khak low-density resort estates
Larger land plots and quieter frontage, the usual choice for full buyouts.
Pool-villa retreat properties
Small inventories of 30-70 villas suited to executive groups of 20-50.
Natai Beach luxury resorts
Southern end of the coast, closest to the airport at around 40 minutes, with the highest-end room product in the area.
Meetings in Khao Lak
The typical Khao Lak brief is a residential retreat of 20 to 80 people taking most of a resort for three or four nights. Sessions run in a ballroom or an open pavilion, breaks happen on grass rather than in a foyer, and the absence of a town centre means delegates stay in the programme. We usually recommend a single-property base here, since the resorts are far enough apart that splitting inventory costs real shuttle time.
- Single-property buyouts practical at 40-120 rooms
- Open-air pavilions and beach lawns for breakout and syndicate work
- No adjacent nightlife district, which keeps residential agendas intact
- Airport transfer of 60-90 minutes should be built into arrival-day timing
Conferences in Khao Lak
Conference formats here work up to roughly 250 delegates in the largest resorts, and we are straightforward with clients about that ceiling. There is no convention centre in Phang Nga province. Above 250, or where an exhibition floor is required, Phuket is the correct recommendation and the extra hour of transfer is not worth absorbing. Below the ceiling, Khao Lak offers something Phuket cannot: an entire property with no other groups in it.
- Largest resort ballrooms handle roughly 200-350 theatre style
- Exclusive-use conditions achievable at a scale Phuket rarely permits
- Production crew, rigging and large LED walls are trucked in from Phuket
- We refer briefs above 250 delegates to Phuket rather than force the fit
Incentive programmes in Khao Lak
Incentive programmes here are built around water and rainforest rather than nightlife. A four-night itinerary might open with a Similan snorkelling day, follow with sea-kayaking through the sea caves of Phang Nga Bay, add a rainforest morning at Khao Sok, and close with a beach gala under strung lighting on an empty stretch of sand. The reward is space and quiet, which lands well with senior groups.
- Similan Islands snorkelling and diving days from November to April
- Phang Nga Bay sea-kayaking through limestone caves and hongs
- Khao Sok rainforest and Cheow Lan Lake as a one-night programme extension
- Long private beach stretches for exclusive dinners with no public access
Exhibitions and trade shows in Khao Lak
Khao Lak does not support trade exhibitions and should not be proposed for them. Internal formats work: dealer displays, product walkthroughs and small table-top setups run inside resort function space or on covered decks. Anything with stand builds or significant freight is served better from Phuket, where the contractors, warehousing and floor space already exist.
- Suited to internal table-top and product-display formats only
- All contractors, freight and shell scheme originate in Phuket
- Covered outdoor decks work for displays in the November to April dry season

How we run Khao Lak on the ground
The operational detail that decides whether a programme runs to plan.
- Airport transfers run 60-90 minutes on Highway 4; we stage coaches at HKT in two waves and brief drivers on the single overtaking-heavy section north of Thai Muang
- Resorts are spread across roughly 20 kilometres of coast, so multi-hotel programmes carry real shuttle cost; single-property buyouts are almost always the better structure
- Similan access requires national park entry permits and licensed operators, and the park closes from around mid-May to mid-October for the monsoon
- Local supplier depth is thin: AV, production, staging and additional guides are contracted from Phuket with a minimum two-day lead and overnight crew costs
